Smart protection for South African geysers

Extend geyser life. Prevent bursts. Reduce costs.

GeyserGuard is an enterprise-grade IoT geyser monitoring system that continuously measures the condition of your geyser's sacrificial anode in real time — predicting failure before it happens, protecting components, and helping homeowners and insurers reduce the number one household claim driver.

Built on the same underlying switching and control technology used across PowerPulse Innovations’ product family.

*Projection-based estimate. Empirical validation in progress through pilot programme.

See GeyserGuard in action

Geyser failures remain the leading household insurance claim category in South Africa. The root cause in the vast majority of cases is a depleted sacrificial anode — a component that corrodes in place of the tank wall, protecting the geyser interior. When the anode is exhausted, the tank corrodes from within until it fails.

  • Detect geyser problems before catastrophic failure
  • Reduces costly water damage claims through advance warning
  • Extend the life of critical components
  • Supports proactive, data-driven insurance portfolio management
  • Watch the short overview below to see how the system works and why it matters for South African homes

Why GeyserGuard matters

Geysers are expensive to repair, disruptive when they fail, and a major contributor to household damage claims.
Preventative protection

Stop small problems becoming big ones

Get actionable warnings early, so maintenance can happen before a burst, element failure, or major leak.

Cost control

Reduce repair bills and downtime

Fewer emergency call-outs, fewer replacements, and less damage to ceilings, floors, and electrical systems.

Peace of mind

Know what’s happening—anytime

Simple status, smart notifications, and remote control make geyser management clear and convenient.

Key features

Anode-current monitoring — the primary protection GeyserGuard continuously measures the life of the geyser's sacrificial anode. Component Life Extension - the secondary protection. Modern control, protection, and insight—designed for reliability and real-world results.
Protection & longevity

Component-friendly switching and control

Designed to reduce stress on components and improve long-term reliability through smarter operation.

Early fault detection

Alerts before failure

Detect abnormal behaviour and notify users early—helping prevent costly bursts and breakdowns.

Smart scheduling

Heat when it makes sense

Schedules, temperature management, and modes (e.g., holiday) to reduce unnecessary consumption.

Data insights

Visibility that creates value

Usage and event data supports better decisions for homeowners—and unlocks analytics opportunities for insurers.

Works brilliantly alongside SolarBoost and GridGuard

GeyserGuard focuses on protection and longevity, while SolarBoost optimises geyser use inside solar installations, and GridGuard supports broader outage/efficiency objectives.

How it works

A clean, installer-friendly flow—built for consistent performance and easy user experience.
01 Install

Installed by a registered electrician (Certificate of Compliance required) or qualified plumber, depending on installation scope. Typical installation time: 30–60 minutes. No drain-down required. Compatible with all standard electric storage geysers, all brands and sizes..

02 Monitor

Continuous real-time measurement of the anode, tracks the sacrificial reaction rate. The platform samples the device and classifies its health status — Satisfactory, Warning, or Critical — against defined thresholds.

03 Alert

When the device enters Warning or Critical status, automatic email notifications are sent to nominated insurer contacts, enabling proactive maintenance scheduling before a burst event occurs.

04 Protect

GeyserGuard's zero-point-crossing switching relay takes over from the thermostat, eliminating switching-induced wear. The thermostat continues to sense temperature and send switching instructions — only the physical switching transfers to GeyserGuard.

Insurance and household impact

Lower risk, fewer payouts, happier policyholders—plus better insight over time.
Fewer burst events

Reduce water damage risk

Advance warning of anode depletion enables maintenance scheduling before failure. Where this prevents a burst, the water damage component of the claim — typically R12,500–R13,500 per event — is eliminated entirely.

Projected claims reduction

Less disruption, more trust

At portfolio scale with a 10-year geyser life extension: projected 77% reduction in annual claims cost. At 15-year life extension: projected 85% reduction. These are projection-based estimates pending empirical validation through our pilot programme. A detailed methodology and financial model are available on request.

Data that scales

Enable smarter underwriting

Aggregated device health, alert event, and claims data supports better risk modelling, proactive maintenance programmes, and improved underwriting decisions over time.
